Meet Claire, Our Active Together Champion!

Picture of Claire

Claire has always gained enjoyment from physical exercise but never thought she could enjoy running and believed that running was for fit young people only. That changed 6 years ago when a work colleague (now a good friend and running buddy) asked Claire to join her on a beginner running group in Fleckney. She joined in and with the guidance and motivation from the run leader found that she could run for longer and build up to 5km. This new outlet has seen Claire make new friends and helped her through some challenging times.

My one top tip for others in being more active is don't overthink it, just get out there! The hardest part is getting out the door, plan it and do it.

Claire PotterActive Together Champion

Even in the most difficult times of supporting her daughter through recovery from an eating disorder, she was able to run. Her running buddy become her therapist and her daughter made her stronger, and whilst she has made a full recovery, it really did put things into perspective for Claire. Claire also does an online exercise group and is doing all she can to stay happy and healthy, whilst working as an intensive care nurse. In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, exercise was essential for Claire on her day’s off to switch off from the emotional challenge of each day. Claire now actively prioritises mental health issues at work and encourages her colleagues to be active and practice self-care.
