In Leicestershire we have just started offering Waterways Well-being activities. We’re working in partnership with the Canal and River trust to hold socially prescribed canoe, paddle board and walking sessions in South Leicestershire. These session aim to give people who are feeling stressed, anxious or social isolated the opportunity to enjoy some ‘me’ time, whilst relaxing and talking to like minded people along our beautiful canals and rivers.
The canal and river trust have both paddle board and canoe well-being sessions taking place at several locations around south Leicestershire. These short 5-week courses, are aimed at people who may be feeling anxious, stressed, isolated or for those who want to improve their physical health. The Canal and River Trust give people an opportunity to learn a new skill and socialise in a blue/green space, because life is better by the water.
Uptake for our activities is gradually growing and everyone who has attended them finishes with a combination of emotions a feeling of relaxed oneness to nature and the environment but also enthused and energised, often looking forward to their next opportunity to get back out on the water.
Below are the upcoming paddle board sessions. These programmes last for 5 weeks. Make sure to keep an eye on our website for future courses.
